My latest blog is up here: https://www.thegrouphug.com/2020/10/29/controlling/
Going to court with a controlling ex is never easy and sometimes you can feel as though you are being rail-roaded into it. It can cost you a fortune (money that ideally could be spent on creating a happier future for you and your children) and it can become all-consuming.
You have the option to back off from it in many cases – abusers and controlling ex’s thrive on a fight, thrive on knowing that they are winning and you are losing, they don’t care how long the fight goes on for or who gets hurt in the process. Walking away from the fight isn’t losing – it’s choosing to find a better way forwards for the sake of your wellbeing.
If you are going to engage in family court you will need a good ‘coat of armour’. Strategies, support, financial help and a bundle of strength and resilience.
